Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, often referred to professionally as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the first female artist signing for J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Dreamville Records released her debut EP titled Pho in October 2016, and she was able to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. The album was released in May of 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading music on the internet in 2012, when she released her first mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in the year 2013. She continued to upload her music online in 2014, including the independently-released single Bound. The track Sweat it is part of Omen's Elephant Eyes album on July 21st, 2015. The following year, her music circulated around the Dreamville group as J. Cole wanted her to join him in creating some potential references to Rihanna. In December 2008, the news was made public that Rihanna had contracted with Dreamville Records. Backseat, a track she performed together with Cozz for the Revenge of the Dreamers II collaborative album. On the 21st of October in 2016, her EP Pho was released. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening performance on behalf of J. Cole on his single Change in 2017. She also was a part of the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. The singer also performed in the music videos Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus together with Bas, her labelmates. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on July 16, 2018. A music video was followed by a music video in September. On November 9 she released two singles titled 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. In November 2013 she released her debut album No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track she sang alongside Cole for Creed II's soundtrack on November 16th. It was then released as a single on its own in February of 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. It was released with an accompanying music video that debuted in February 20th, 2019 and surpassed 3 million views via YouTube in one week. She supported 6LACK's From East Atlanta With Love Tour at the end of December the year 2018.
